So I decided my next translation/scanslation project will be Moto Hagio’s manga adaption of Jean Cocteau’s Les Enfants Terribles. It’s by far my favorite work by her… which makes me feel a little guilty since it’s not her original story, but it’s such a masterful adaption that I may even prefer it to the novel (which is sacrilege too, forgive me!).
Actually, if I can indulge a little about myself, up until recently I worked at a small Japanese publisher. I’m also a freelance translator and so they asked me to make a list of manga I’d be willing to translate which they’d try to get the rights for. This was one, although I knew there was no chance for it (nor were there for any of the other books I requested; publishing is a tough business, friends! Remember to treat your favorite English manga publishers with respect; negotiating licenses with Japanese companies can be a real headache)… But since the age of manga and the potential copyright issues make in unlikely to be published here, I’m hoping it’s okay to scanslate it myself; I’m going to make it available via a password-protected zip so only people who know this tumblr can download it. It’s broken up into four chapters, so I’m aiming to do one a month; I’m also fairly sure it hasn’t been scanslated before (correct me if I’m wrong) so I’ll be tearing up my own copy (I swear I’ll do a better job this time than I did on Cyborg 009!).
So if you’re interested, keep an eye out and if you’d like to spread the word to other classic manga fans, please do reblog!
